
GO CART RULES
1. FEES
- $10.00 one time fee for 2008 Desert Thunder Raceway Membership is required.
- $10.00 entry fee for each race.
- Spectators must buy a $10.00 pit pass, which may get them into general admittance at the next race, or they may use it and pay an up grade of $15.00 to get into the pits at that nights care race.
2. Races
- Race dates are April 26, May 31, June 14, July 5, Aug. 2, Aug. 23 and Sept. 27.
- Gates open April 26 at 10:00 a.m. for tech. The following race dates, gates will open at 11:00 a.m.
- All carts must be inspected. All carts may be mechanical teched by a Go Kart official at any reasonable time. If the guardian does not allow an inspection upon a reasonable request that cart will lose all points earned for the night and may not race again until they meet with the Offical of the the Desert Thunder Raceway Go Cart Class.
- Tech area will be North West of the shack where you buy your pit pass. You must bring your cart to the Tech to be inspected.
- Inspection means the cart has complied with the rules, it in no way means that the cart is mechanically or safety sound, be it further declared that the inspector shall not be liable, nor Desert Thunder Raceway, for any losses, injuries or death occured on the raceway grounds.
- All participants 14 and younger must provide proof of age and written permission signed by a parent/guardian to be kept in a file by a Desert Thunder Official.
- Kids under the age of 14 must be with a guardian.
- If you want to protest another driver's cart it must be in writing and be accompanied with $25.00 and taken to one of the Go Cart track officials, in a timley fashion (within 20 minutes from the end of the race). All protests must be resolved the night of the protest. Harvey Howard may make exceptions.
3.SAFETY
- All carts coming to race will have a 3 pound CO2 Extinguisher in their pit.
- There must be sufficient bars to stop another cart from getting to the driver in the event the cart stalls sideways on the track. Richard Oliver will assist any carts needing bars welded for safety for free in 2008. Richard may be reached at 435-637-2119. Driver's must provide bars.
- Padding must be placed anywhere the driver may bump any bars with their feet, arms or head.
- Four point seat belts are a must.
- Helmet that does not have a full face sheild must wear goggles.
- All driver's must have long pants, long sleeved shirts, sweaters or coats. Should be cotton or levi. Must have leather shoes and leather gloves. Strongly suggest full fire suit nose to toes! NO Sandals.
4. CARTS
- Carts legal to a maximum of 48 inches wide, outside tire to outside tire and be a maximum of 89 inches bumper to bumper
- Front bumper may not be wider than the tires. Front bumper must be 8" tall in a circle or square shape. This is not a push bar, it is for safety.
- Engine must be at the rear of the cart, Gas 91 Octane Maximum.
- The kill switch be within reach of the driver.
- All carts must have a chain / clutch guard.
- Mufflers are mandatory.
- Carts wtih batteries must be secure and be in a plastic box.
- Tires may be now wider than 8" wide, no taller than 14". Rim wheel max 8" wide.
- Wings are allowed with bodies, on the carts, however top of the wing may not be more than 5 feet above the ground and may not be wider than the tires or longer than the tires.
- Numbers, of contrasting color, 9 inches tall on both sides. Number not readable MAY not receive points for that race.
- NO speeding in the pit area.
- Rear end may have a swing arm, with a coil over shock. Must have a solid rear axle. No suspension of any kind on the front end.
- All parts must remain stock.
- Carts must have two window nets or two arm restraints or door must be no lower than 5" below he driver's shoulders.
- Two bars at the drivers side with at least one upright bar at driver's side, or max of 7" between two side bars, top bar, no lower than 5" below driver's shoulder.
5. AGE 5 UP TO 10 YEARS
- ENGINE Stock up to a 6.5 Horsepower, 4 stroke.
- Cart weight for lower division with driver 300-350 pounds minimum.
- Cart weight for middle division with driver 400 pounds minimum.
- No off road racing engines.
- Drivers may race in the upper class of 11 to 14 if they desire. Driver's must register to race in the upper class and pay an extra $10.00. However, they must weigh 450 pounds in the upper class.
6. AGE 11 UP TO 14 YEARS
- ENGINE Stock up to 8 Horsepower, 4 stroke.
- No off road racing engines.
- Cart must weigh with driver 450 pounds, minimum.
7. POINTS
- First Heat Race 4 laps - 55 points first, 45 points second, 43, 41, 39, etc.
- Second Heat Race 6 laps - same points as first heat race.
- Third and Main Race 10 laps - 150 points first, 140 points second, 135, 130, ect.
- If the Cart does not make one complete lap / you do not finish the race no points are given for that race. If you are Black flagged you will receive no points for that race. No reckless driving allowed.
